According to TSB SI B54 05 06 (June 2006 edition) there are now individual parts or part kits for most common failures of the sunroof

I'm glad it took BMW 7 years to figure out that individual parts can be replaced on the sunroof system. How long have fanatics been doing this???

But this is good for folks who are out of warranty and don't want to mess with fixing their sunroof.

The part numbers for the individual pieces on the driver's side are
54 13 8 246 027. You'll likely need two of these.
