I tried my flash off-camera for the first time on a car, just a quick test, I need an umbrella and another tripod and another flash wouldn't hurt.

lol you know i have no idea what your rig looks like. anyways, the mounting of the rig isn't so critical to the outcome of the picture, right? i mean, a bottom mounted rig will be tons easier to photoshop out than, say, a side panel or trunk/hood/roof mounted rig.

FTMFW!!! also because of the lighting too.. The light is what reflects off the paint so the bright paint is what you see. and everything else gets covered up. Also my car is really dirty too. haven't washed it for two weeks.

I'm looking for a 58mm one, and it looks like B+W has a bunch of different multicoated ones. Are the "digital circular polarizing" filters optimized for digital cameras or something? What's the difference between the digital and non-digital ones?

they are coated to prevent CA, and flaring. the better companies have more resistant coats to those problems. I have a 58mm that i dont use anymore. its was for my cheap kit lens, but it was also a cheap CP filter, but hoya made it.
