Question for Gary - Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge 16" tires

Gary,

I'm thinking about getting these tires to use during the winter months here in Maryland (snow season here isn't too severe and I can usually get away with dedicated all season tires to use during the winter months) and my OEM Style 42 winter wheels are 16x7. I currently use Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires in 225/50/16 size. What tire size for the Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge tires is appropriate for 16x7 OEM wheels? I see different size options for 16" on the tirerack site but don't know which is appropriate for my 323i with sport package.

Either 205/55R16 or 225/50R16 would work well on your car. For better winter traction the more narrow (but same height) 205/55R16 would be the way to go.

Gary, I didn't see 225/50R16 as an option for these Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge tires on the tirerack site. You're saying these tires come in this size?
Also, I thought the exact opposite... the wider the tire then you have more tire that comes in contact with the road therefore the better winter traction you would have. Why is it that the narrower the tire is the better the traction?

Correct, 205/55R16 is the way to to go. Keep in mind that a more narrow tire will bite through the snow more effectively contacting the pavement rather than floating over it like a wider tire will.
