Talking 02 325cic in Vermont

Hey all - just picked up my baby this week. 5-speed white/black top/tan interior, 57,000 miles, appears to be a "base" model with 16" rims and missing a couple options like heated seats and lumbar adjustment. It does have the removable hardtop which I've left on for the time being, which I think looks kind of cool. (Temps are in the 30s/40s up here so no open-air likely until spring) The main reason I got this car was because I've been looking for a convertible for a few years - have had them before and just missed having one too much.

This is my first BMW and my other car (which was a garage queen but has now been demoted to daily/winter duty) is a 2004 Mazda 6 - v6/5-speed loaded and I thought I had pretty nice car there but man... after a few days in the 325 I feel like I've stepped into a whole new league here. I originally set out to find a used soft-top Volvo C70, found this car, and the deal was irresistible - I got it for my 2002 Impreza + $9500. This car is nicer than anything I've ever had, I can't believe it's mine, and my face hurts from smiling so much. I'm already thinking about someday trading my Mazda for an AWD BMW sedan/wagon but as that car only has 7,000 miles on it, I'm going to keep it for a few years.

It's got snows mounted so it must have been someone's year-round car. It came with a set of unmounted Michelin all-seasons, but I may not bother putting them back on and just use the snows as my "parking" tires after finding new "summer" rims/tires.

Aside from upgrading the rims/tires and adding a subwoofer, I don't have any plans for modding the BMW. That may change after hanging out here, however! The last convertible I had I only put about 2,000 miles a year on so my questions are going to be about long-term storage, appropriate maintenance, and already looking for a hardtop hoist, but I promise to search before asking!

Happy Motoring,
-PT

Congrats. I'd definitely suggest the route I went for tires. I have Dunlop snow tires on my stock rims for the winter, and Z-rated tires on aftermarket rims for the summer. Great traction for each season, it's one of the most useful mods you can do in New England weather.

Thanks for the tip - it's got Continental Contitrac (?) or somesuch winter tires with the snowflake emblem on them, but I don't intend to drive this car in snow ever. I'll be getting winter tires for my aforementioned FWD Mazda and I'll be slumming in that during the winter months, praying for spring to hurry up and get here

Already looking for a set of 18s with summer-only tires

It's very tempting, but like I said - just rims/tires and a subwoofer are all I'm going to need to make this a "perfect" summer toy for me. I don't think I'm even going to change any of the tails/corners/markers because I like how the red and orange lenses contrast with the otherwise white or white/black exterior of the car.

As things NEED replacement, like exhaust and brakes, maybe I'll upgrade, but my objective with this car was not performance, just being able to cruise top down with style and confidence. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I drove it today with the top down for the first time. It was raining the day of the test-drive and I've had the hardtop on since delivery... I'd been saying I was going to wait to get a hoist before taking it off, but it was 64*F and not raining here today - I live in Vermont - so I had a buddy help me pop it off and have a temporary storage solution in my garage for now.

The only "trick" I'm thinking would be cool to add is some kind of remote top raising/lowering solution - I tried the "lower the top and windows via the key in the keyhole feature" today, can that be tied to the remote entry? I don't remember seeing that mentioned in the manual. I would NOT attempt to wire something myself, I'd probably set the car on fire in the process, but if there was a proven plug/play solution, I'd be game...

(you'll notice I'm not posting much - I've had several questions, but have been able to find most of my answers via the search mechanism )
