Tire vs Rim width

I am looking at getting 17" rims with either a 7, 7.5 or 8" width. My quesiton is, how do I know what tires can fit the various widths or will they pretty much all fit. SO.... If I was to get 225/45R17 for example would they fit on all? I know they'd fit on the 8" ones but how about the 7.5's or 7's??? Again, I guess I'm looking for some cross reference on tires to wheels or don't I really worry about that? (will 225/45R17's fit on all of these???)
Thanks guys

Yes, they will fit all of those widths. Tires are very lenient as long as it's not anything extreme. In your case, 225/45 will fit all those.
