question about 3 piece wheels
![]() technicly if you want to widen a 3piece forged wheel : do you change the outer and inner rims so both pieces are wider? In other words does a wheel manifacturing compagny has different sizes of inner wheels and outer wheels in stock to offer bigger size wheels or do they usualy offer just 1 inner wheel and different size outer wheels? I think they just offer 1 outer wheel and different inner wheels because example the brand HRE has the 90 degree valve system (a polished tube comes out of the outer wheel and connects the air in the tires to a air valve that is mounted in the heart of the wheel) is probably always the same and if they offer just 1 outer wheel they can offer different sizes and offsets with just one valve system and outer wheels. Does somebody know this? Lets say i have HRE wheels 3 piece 540R and that i want to create bigger wheels so i can mount bigger tires. Can i just swap the outer rims by any brand? Will it fit? Or do i need special outer rims that only fit Hre inner rims? __________________

I would think that as long as the inner rim and outer rim's bolt patterns match up, including the lip where a tire is mounted, you should be able to interchange rim pieces. We used to swap rims all the time on our Formula SAE car, to run a 6" or 7" or 8".
Another problem would be the offset, if you plan on just running wider tires, then that width is going to increase the inside width of the wheel. Ron
