Could be any of the two, or both.

Can I do this with nav? Or what would it require?

Gotta look into this more closely - I just checked, and BMW in Canada want over $100 for the aux input cable... they're completely nuts!!!! And I don't think Pacific or Circle ship to Montreal... arghhhh
Thanks whote46 for the write-up!!! Edit: has anyone tried to do something similar, but with the CD changer connector in the trunk? I just verified that I have it in there, and it is easier to access than removing parts of the dash to get to the HU... Also, I Checked my HU - I have "SV 35-02 50". Which is SW? the 35 or 50?? Thanks! Also, Last edited by michelito; 01-06-2007 at 11:50 AM. |

NAV-equipped vehicles (2003+) have a 3-pin receptacle for the AUX connector to plug into behind the NAV screen.

It's behind the NAV screen. You can use a e39-specific (non NAV) AUX kit and extract the pins if you would like to go directly into the tuner in the trunk.

I made an aux input using this thread's directions. Mine is a little different, DSC panel has the aux input and I use a male to male cable to connect ipod to aux plug. I bought the plug from radio shack and use the cables from computer (audio cables, power switch cable). if you guys have any questions feel free to ask me. i would probably be more responsive via e-mail (docorona@gmail.com)

Oh and i'm hedging as to whether i have an Aux in on my headunit, i have the Mode button, but its a tape deck, is this less likely to support AUX in?

I just tried to check the SW version on my cassette unit and it says SV 10 02 500 - is that any good? i notice everyone is talking about CD headunits, so i'm gonna figure that this is nt applicable or doiable on the cassette head unit?

Just check to see if you have the pins for the "SoundSystem" which are below the large pins (15, 13, 16). If so, you should see pin 4, 8, 9 which are ground, Ext In R+, Ext In L+ respectively. You have to pull your cassette unit out and look at the large black plug. If you do post a picture of what you saw for benefit of others.
Note dont confuse the above with the pins for the CD-changer which are under the large pins - 11, 14, 12. See post #10 for the diagram.

Business Cassette (even post 09/02) does not support AUX.
