IMO, deploying with the USAR/NG is even worse with the train up and crap. So it is actually 18 months. The consensus seems to be that the train up is mostly sitting around.

Update:

U.S. Army Paratrooper///Active Duty///MacDill AFB FLORIDA///13.5 years!!!

Last Friday, I got to play Navy at my good friend's (SeaBee) retirement ceremony by ringing the bell when he entered the ceremony, gave a "stinger" for the C.O., ringing the bell again for the "Watch Poem" & when he had permission to enter ashore. Can't believe he served 27 freakin' years!!!

our deployment is only supposed to 12 months tops this time including trainup since this is our second deployment in only 3 yrs.

Navy Seahawk Pilot///Active Duty///CONUS///18 Yrs

Just redeployed this week from a 12 month stint in the Sunni Triangle with the 402nd Civil Affairs Battalion... I definintely got a new appreciation for the American Soldier after volunteering to serve with an Army SpecOps unit.

Now I'm just enjoying my family and hard earned deployment booty quite a bit...

Yeah, a year is long...15 months will seem like an eternity. I don't mind staying longer if it helps getting the mission done. But damned...I miss 2 christmases in a row. Which really sucks because my daughter is getting to be the age where she can enjoy it.

If they try to screw everyone out of the $1000 per month for getting extended, I will be SUPER PISSED OFF

...which wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility IMO...this will probably cost the government about $100 million per month

...and the taxpayers =
