5 1/4" Component Speaker Poll (under $300)

Has anyone heard the Alpine 5 1/4 components (SPX-137A)?

I'm considering them to go with the Alpine 540 AMP. I know you don't have to match them to your amp but they look good aside from that.

Also in the running are JL Audio XR525-CSi, Diamond Audio m651, and the Focal 136k's. I really don't want to go over $250.

I know it's fairly subjective. Seems like the people on this forum like the Diamonds or the Focals (not sure if that love applies to the cheaper models (under $300) though. Ah, F*** it! Let's have a poll, shall we?

I have personally installed these in an E46, and with the right amp, they will sound great. Personally though, out of the 4 choices you have listed, I'd go with the Diamonds.

Thank You . I think I'm leaning towards the diamonds. I just have to figure out if I want to splurge and do the hex with the silk tweeters or stick with the m series.

How about CDT HD52?

I have been hearing really good reviews about CDT Audio HD 52 as well, anyone had any experience with them?

They can be bought at CBRstereo.com for $198.

Any inputs?

berman66, how easy was fitting the 136k's ? Aren't they too deep for a stealth mount?

Are you happy with them , i.e. don't wish you went with anything larger or a different brand?.

Does anyone have any opinion on going through the trouble of fitting 6 1/2's in compared to 5 1/4 as far as sound quality goes?
I've read that sometimes a 5 1/4 in a small space will sound better than a 6 1/2 if there isn't enough air behind the speaker.

ive read this also...some speakers need the right amount of space to sound good, whereas a 5.25 woofer might sound better than a 6.5 in a door such as our bimmers..

Can anyone comment on the 136k depth fitting in the stock front door location in an e46 sedan? It seems like it cuts it close.

I ordered Diamond Audio HEX s5000s today. I figured if I went through all the trouble and aggravation of installing them and I ended up $100 away from hapiness because I didn't go for the HEX I would be mighty upset. Call it audio paranoia if you want.

Does anyone have any experience with the rear fill speaker set they sell to accompany them? They make a set for the m series as well. From what I can tell though, it would mean running all 4 off of 2 channels. I guess I could bridge my amp and go that route (I ordered a 4 channel ).
