Xenon HL out and out of warranty

The factory xenon light on the passenger side of my 04 325Ci has gone out. i was pulling into the parking garage of my office building this morning and the headlights came on automatically except the right side Xenon headlight. The inner lamp that is used for flashing works fine. I get the red "bulb out" indicator on the dashboard. I'm fresh out of warranty with 50520 miles right now, and since the manual says that any work on xenons should be done by a BMW tech, i'm quite worried about having to take the car to the dealership and having to cough some serious dough for a bulb change.

Is there anything special or particular about changing the xenon bulb? or can it be pretty much a DIY job? if its a DIY thing does anybody know the right procedure or can point me to it? any help would be greatly appreciated

Its pretty much like changing a regular bulb. Just like halogen dont touch the bulbs. If you look at where you change the bulb you can figure out how to get it out. Id get the bulbs on ebay. Good luck.

Definitely something you can do yourself. I'm betting the bulb is out but just swap the bulbs to make sure. Take off the rubber boot on the back of the headlight, untwist the red plug, untwist the black plastic coupler and slide out the old bulb. Do the same on the other side and slide the bulbs back in place, twist the black plastic couplers back on and the red plug. If it does turn out to be a bad bulb, you can replace the pair with a set of our D2S Replacement bulbs to upgrade the color of your bulb.

First make sure the bulb is out and not the ballast. Swap left and right bulbs to confirm.
