BMW won't reflash my LCM, what to do?

Called up the stealership and said they don't do LCM reflashes. They said they haven't used the MODIC system since 1994, and that my only option to upgrade my lights to xenon is aftermarket.

What can I do/tell them?

You could solder in some capacitors (or is it resistors? I don't remember) so you won't have a bulb out warning. I prsume this is the reason you want to reflash your LCM. There are some posts here on how to do this. Search a little. Then again, you can just go to another dealership who has the know how.

I would be fine with the bulb-out warning...the problem is that after a day or two one light will shut off. I took everything apart, checked it, and reinstalled it. Everything worked for another few days, then one stops working. I don't know what I can do to fix that issue...

I guess you have original xenons installed in your car, am I correct? I don't think a reflash would solve it. More like either the bulbs or the ballasts are going bad already

A dealer reflash won't fix the lights going out, only the bulb out warning on your dash. Find the problem with your instalation, then find an other dealer.

Of course they haven't used MODIC since 1994.. Are you using a 80386 PC?

They moved on with newer equipment which is perfectly cabable to recode an LCM. If they don;t know that, find another dealer

Are you SURE? The guy with the LCM Reflash thread said he has problems with his headlights going out and got a reflash and now they work, he just doesn't have bixenon now.

I checked my install twice, and it worked for a few days each time. If my install was faulty, it wouldn't work at all, correct?

Your right, most of the times if you don't do a LCM reflash (if you do need one) your lights will flicker or not even turn on.

yes it will. on the new e46's, typically 03+, the xenons will either flicker constantly, or not turn on at all.

that's not necessarily true either, if your install was bad, a number of things can and don't work. but since you've already said you have a sound install, then it's going to be something else

call the dealership again and tell them that you need your "LSZ' to be flashed to accept xenons, if that still doesn't work, find another dealer because they aren't competent enough. look into indy shops as well, as they will charge much less.

thank god I have an 02+

If i installed my P46s, and when i turned them on to test, i wouldn't be too happy to see them flicker or not turn on at all

but i don't have to deal with that

it happens on 02+ sedans. 03+ coupes. but there are very few instances where you get lucky, for awhile.
