Sorry Guys, Pictures are up again. Changed hosting companies and this directory was missed in the re-upload. All should be well again. Unfortunately I do not monitor these forums anymore to have noticed an earlier than now.

Wait - What do you need to do the the AC control arM?

Do you have to remove it / modify it etc? Can someone elaborate? Also do you loose some functionality by doing this? How difficult etc?

I am doing my install early next week. I didnt notice this before.

Will an Avic series decks work with the Harmon Kardon stereo which has a separate Harmon Kardon amplifier? One of my buddies says that it might not work and that rewiring the whole stereo including wiring to the speakers might be required?

Yes Toadfart,

It will work fine but depending on which AVIC radio you have, determining the POWER RATING of that specific unit and how high you crank your music it can cut that arranged marriage short if you catch my drift.

when I was doing my Install, of my AVIC Z2 unit in my E46 M3 along with the bluetooth, ipod, XM Nav traffic and steering wheel adaptors all installed without upgrading the speakers and connecting the external aftermarket AMPS (JL A1800 & A6450) for almost 3weeks due to other higher priorities. it worked fine but i was careful not to play it too hard cause i knew the OEM Harmon Kardon speakers could NOT handle the power from the AVIC- Z2 through the factory amp.

hope that helped

Where have most people mounted the IR eye for the PAC steering wheel controls? My Z2 is currently in the process of being installed and I haven't figured out a place to install the PAC unit. Where would be the "easiest" and "cleanest" spot for it? Thanks.

Guys, in my E46 M3,

I installed that PAC unit above the AVIC Z2 behind the vent.

it sits nice and snug on top of the Radio behind that Vent. you must make sure you ground it close enough so that the ground cable gives you enough slack for it to sit up there but that should be easy.

Thanks to mrdecibel- another successful e46 doble din install!!!

Hi MrDecibel!!!

I just would like to say THANK YU MrDECIBEL!!!! for sharing the details of your double din install work on your e46 . I used your instructions and got mine installed in no time (4-5 hours only as I did not have any GPS to install).
I also installed two small switches inside the cigarette tray (1 to bypass the drive play so you can watch dvd while driving and the other is to turn on and off the head rest monitors).

Anyhow i'm lovin the new look and wanted to thank you and others like you who take the time to document great findings that will help thousands like myself

Thanks!

Which HVAC Carrier Do I Need??

I just had a double din installed in my 1999 328i. I was wondering which HVAC carrier I need. I am awfully confused by individual buttons vs single row. I believe since I have the older year, that I need the individual button carrier (51 16 8 230 902 for carrier with individual buttons). Just wanted to double check.

You will need the individual button setup.
If you look in the picture a couple posts above yours, he will require a single row setup.

is the dash the same for all cars? i took out my head unit, but the AC controls definitely don't just slide out. it looks like i have to remove the vents first. is there anything holding the vents in besides the two screws? i took the screws out but the vents still will not budge at all. if i pull any harder i'm gonna break the plastic. what the hell am i doing wrong?

yes the dash is the same on all the e46's/ You have to remove the screws in the front of the vents and then pull kinda hard out and upward a little. It seems like it will break but it wont. It kinda snaps in so it takes some force.

Goodluck
