Pat's > Tony Luke's > Jim's> Geno's
Trust me...I went to school in Philly and there were many drunken nights that ended up at these places...Pat's is so money!

This Pat's/Geno's thing has to be a placebo or something.... Both places are like 30 mins away from my house and they have the most overpriced, nothing-special cheesesteaks around IMO. There are a few local pizza places that make chesesteak 10X better than Pat's/Geno's.... for those of you local in Philly check out Original Village Pizza on Red Lion/Verre; another real good place thats a chain is Steve's Prince of Steak. My main problem with Pat's/Geno's is that the meat is prepared in bulk amounts so it can sit on the grill for a while before going into the bun, there is usually not much cheese.... I dunno, doesn't do it for me.

john's philly grill is HB is better than Philly's best, one on beach and indianapolis, and one on goldenwest and edinger. but philly's best is pretty good. for what's it's worth... my friend's grandma lives in philly and has for 40 years and we took her to philly grill and she said it was "the best cheesesteak i've ever had"

OP, you should try Laspada's next time you are in the Tampa/Clearwater area. It's by far the best I've had, family owned place from Philly. My buddy tried Geno's in Philly and he said he likes Laspada's better. Not saying it is, but it's pretty damn good.
