••ό•• Predator Orion™ Summary Thread

In April 2007, we had this crazy idea that with the proliferation of LED technology, why not try to go back to the LED technology for Angel Eyes.

So, with that in mind, we talked to our valued supplier to build us what they had built for us with the angel eyes previously. They agreed.

We maintain full exclusive on the Chrome backing part of the kit, which despite all other claims makes the product more complete, clean, and even less expensive than the competition.

We have pioneered every single angel eyes innovation since 2003.

Existing users of our Chromium product line will be able to purchase these for only $79. Shipping and handling is only $5, depending on your location.

New customers can purchase this product for only $119.

My camera takes 30FPS, it's a full motion camera and on the camera, you can detect flicker that the eye simply cannot detect. If I used one of my older dated DV cameras, you'd see the same thing all of us saw when I did the video in the shop - a seamless, smooth, fade off and a seamless smooth fade one.

All the features present in the Chromium kits are present in this kit.

Yes, it does not flicker like it does on the camera. it's a smooth motion.

We're still working on a tell-all guide about the real Predator Orion, real Predator Chromium, and all the other angel eyes that have been and will be.

We will post this shortly. To answer your question in a 30 second elevator pitch way:

Orion will:
never break through vibration
never break through cold
never refuse to start
never have an external part failure
never fail on the clips (yes, we even got copied on a further heat sinking of the clips)

But there is more.
20K hours rating for CCFL
100K hours rating for LED.

The math translates to:
2.5 years of usage continuous never turning off for Chromium
and
12+ years of usage continuous never turning off for Orion.[/QUOTE]

That's right simple plug and play

We've had no problem "convincing" buyers, they seem to be convincing themselves just fine.

They are slightly brighter than the Umnitza Chromium product.
Not a lot, but brighter.

We modify these to fit out of the box. If you buy them as a generic kit from other sources, you will find your install is more difficult.

Do not connect them to the ballasts they work directly off 12V.

Or are you cross referencing your database to previous predator chromium owners through Umnitza like myself and charging them $79.99 for the upgrade vs new customers at $119.99

They will work but there are no halogens that currently match this color, only Xenons.

Our Predator Xenix come close, very close, but they are not a substitute.

New customers need a harness. If you already have a harness, you only need the rings and we can provide those for you.

That's correct.

Purchasing on your website now! Thanks Matt.

I noticed that under darker conditions the Orions look like they have a more continuous light but in daylight conditions they have the "dotted" LED effect which I actually like. In person the Orions appeared to be brighter than my chromiums (my installer, Chris, confirmed my observations as well)

I seriously think that chrome backing has nothing to do with LED angel eyes..

In case of CCFL Chrome backing is very effective but in case of LED you don't need them cuz LED emits the light directly to the front.

The chrome backing provides several key factors:
1) It improves the fit and finish of the product
2) It prevents unsightly and unseemly reflections in the back of the circuit board (yes, it's actually visible)
3) There are other technical reasons we specified that we will not be able to divulge at this time.

Thank you for your interest.

you can buy the rings only (LED parts) your P46 comes with chrome backing so you don't need to purchase LED angel eyes with chrome backing (you need to take them out anyway).

Predator Orions can fade with the interior lights naturally as part of our kit.

The LED we spec'ed are not like the ones you are showing there though.

We expect under 60 days, but it could be 90.

We considered making yet another angel eyes DIY, but the procedure is exactly the same minus the ballasts for the orions in comparison to the chromiums. The DIY on fastm is still applicable to the orions as long as you keep in mind that there are no ballasts and you connect the halos straight to the harness.

The remote start feature is very nifty, and installation for it was pretty straightforward. Everyone recommends different ways of doing it, but I can ASSURE you (and others will back me up) that unscrewing the glovebox is unnecessary and a waste of time. Simply remove the footwell light and you can reach the red/blue wire to tap. To take it a step further, once you remove the footwell light and disconnect the wire, you can remove the entire bottom panel below the glove box. It simply slides out against the carpet. If anyone needs a more detailed explanation of this, please let me know but it should be very simple. Once that is done, tape the trigger wire of the angel eye wiring harness to a coat hanger and feed it through the rubber grommet. Pick it up on the other side, wire tap to the red/blue wire, and you're done.

Here are some pictures we took to document parts of the installation. Some during, and then some nice pictures of the orions on. Enjoy.

Click on any image to make it bigger.

Tapping the red/white wire with yellow dots.

This is the panel we took out to make the remote kit installation easier.

This picture should make it easier to understand what panel we removed. You can see the floor mat's outline on the carpet. The panel simply slides right out. The black wire is the footwell lighting and the red wire connects to the harness

Xenon's don't match because jmack08 is in the process of replacing one.

Overall, our general impression of the orions is very good. The light output is superb and the fade in/out is nice as well. For the record, the fade in and fade out is not flickering at all.

This might be a stupid question, but I have a set of quad projectors that I believe were made from the P46's. Are the rings in there able to be taken out in order to place orions in instead?
