Well if they aren't suppose to look like the real thing, why have them in copies of the oem rings and why refer to them as Angel Eyes or DDEs?? Call and have them listed as "LED Light Rings". And why advertise them as the latest upgrade or next generation if they are their own style? If they are their own unique style, then this would be Generation 1. I think that's why you get the comparison.

Nothing personal Outlaw333, different likes for different people. I saw these in person at Bimmerfest and was very dissapointed. They look like the picture showing the individual LEDs and I didn't see anyone over 20 who liked them at the show. The new 3, 5 and 6 series guys were laughing their arses off. One guy asked, "why are they called Orion?" Another stander by replied, "After the Orion Constellation with all the star lights shinning". Everyone laughed Then this guy's girlfriend said those aren't Angel Eyes, those were Ho eyes, like she put too much glitter on. It was truely sad

People with those reactions are the "elitist" crowd, so those opinions mean nothing to me anyways

But seriously, I think people's disappointment comes from the expectation of having them resemble the original thing. In regards to calling them something other than "Angel eyes" I think that's kind of a lame point, no offense. I mean, BMW doesn't even call 'em that. It's a "scene" name much like Mtech (as opposed to M-Aero package, or whatever they call it at the dealer) and Facelift.

Again, I think one has to think of it as a different look and not a replacement for the other.

Hell, I don't even understand how people can get so bent over the LEDs when the CCFLs barely look similar to the factory style

Also, you say current Orion owners can switch, but what about those of us who have the P46s (which you recommend customers not to tamper with since they mount differently)? Are we to send the entire assembly if we wish to "upgrade"?

Most people will be technically capable of doing a swap if they so desire. There really isn't a need to send it in. We'll have a detailed install video and it won't be too bad.

good point

yes, in person they are very different than in real life and the real benefits are only coming up on the winter.

FYI - BMW calls them Corona from the SCHOTT Glass patent document. They never called them angel eyes. We enthusiasts did that. They actually call the technology "Celis" in that original patent document but not sure as I've not seen the latest regarding their DRL H8 based rings - I suspect they are the same however.

in person is real life

sorry to be harsh, but that is uncomplimentary looking on that E38.

ask if anyone thinks that looks good that's not bias to your company if you think i'm offbase.

i'm aware what they call them(i've posted it before in posts). but unless it was a Southern Cal BMW market only thing, their first tv commercials called them Halos and Angel Eyes. i'm not sure if i can find access to all their previous commercials, but it's in there.

To Baaarb: I never commented on the multicolored Orions.
Yes I don't have to buy them, and would not for the way they look, that's seems obvious.
The original poster asked opinions about the two stating his reasoning and I've just answered his question giving examples. I and others have just answered questions brought up in this thread for everyone. Since the start of this thread not long ago the LED rings are now being redesigned(why is that you think?). I don't sell these or any others. I have no hidden agenda or bias unlike someone who makes a profit selling these.

please keep the thread on topic.
