Should I purchase an extended warranty when I buy my car after the lease is up?

My current lease will expire in August of this year, so I was wondering if it would be worth it to purchase an extended warranty? How much would something like this run? My car currently has almost 60,000 miles on it and I am hoping nothing major goes wrong with it until that time.

If I do decide to opt for the warranty, would it cover everything that the initial new car warranty did, or would coverage be very limited to certain parts? Under the initial new car warranty, I had my lifters replaced, front control arms replaced, new front brake pads and rotors installed and a short in the a/c circuit repaired. So, as you can see I am a little skeptical about the future reliability of this car. But, I do want to hold on to it until I can afford an M3, perhaps in a year and half or so.

I think extended warranties are worth every penny. My sister got one for her car and so far the warranty company has had to pay out over $2000. You never know what could go wrong and BMW parts and labor are so expensive. It will give you piece of mind.

My friend just purchased an extended warranty for my 330 that he is taking over. Any little thing that breaks down on a bimmer is mad loot. If you ever owned a bimmer when it got to that "stage", you will understand. "Stage", meaning when something is breaking down once a month. Its no fun. You cant use Pep Boy parts or a gas station mechanic to fix your ride.

Get the extended warranty!

Thanks for the replies, but I was also wondering what terms are available and for how much? Are these warranties issued by BMW NA, or some outside company?

As far as I know all extended warranties are issued by outside insurers not BMW. Your local dealership should be able to provide you with extended warranty options.

Definately only buy the warranty offered by BMW. They will only use OEM parts and BMW CErtified technicians. Other 3rd party warranties will/may slap on parts that will just get you by. The warranty will cover your car for 5yrs from the time you purchase it, or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The more miles or older your car, the higher they will charge, cuz it has a higher risk of breaking down. They have different warranty deductibles also. A higher deductible will result in a lower warranty cost.
