Rumormill: BMW diesels on sale in the U.S. mid-October
![]() Click above for more images of BMW's new diesels The BMW X5 xDrive35d and 335d, both revealed live at the Detroit Auto Show, will be coming to the States in mid-October according to the latest rumor. The common engine will be BMW's dual turbocharged 3.0L inline-six diesel, good for 265 hp and 425 pound-feet of torque. According to BMW, these two vehicles will be among the most fuel-efficient and best performing in their respective classes. In addition, with their urea injection system and particulate filters, they should be among the cleanest too. We called our contacts within BMW to confirm or deny the rumor, and as expected, our sources could only reiterate BMW's previous official statements that the cars would be "out by fall." |

Did I miss something or is BMW advertising a car that they'll never produce (hydrogen 7)?

Knowing that the dealers will be asking over the ticket price...and diesel cars being a bit more expensive, I would assume a decently equipped 335d would be in the base petrol M3 Price range... decisions decisions..

oh and i don't think the hydrogen idea was ever going to be marketed as a production car or not, but either way it's not like they trashed the idea because they are bringing diesel engines to the usa...
don't know where anyone could have gotten that idea

I'd be interested in a BMW diesel as I'd never buy a gasser. I've owned my fair share of VW diesels and my 2000 Jetta TDI still gives 50mpg on the highway and 44 in the city. I even convinced a crew member of mine on how good my Jetta is by taking him down to VIR driving 70-80 mph (with the air on). After 650 miles of driving, I finally decided to fill it up. It took 13 gallons.

There's an interview with the bmw cheif engineer saying that h7 idea won't go into production due to lack of hydrogen infrastucture.
