Search for the next car... maybe...

I'm just curious what you guys think about the new cars those wacky bimmer engineers are throwing into the market nowadays.
At first, I was totally psyched on the new 1 series (and yes, I do like the exterior design), with a decent price tag and some serious power.

Then, I realized I'll be back up in Seattle in a month or two, so AWD might be the better route... now I'm leaning towards maybe even an A3 (3.2 Quattro) or something drastic like a Jeep.

I need a little advice from anyone living in an area with a moderate climate similar to that of the Pacific Northwest.
I've had my 323i up here for about 3 years, and I love the car to death, but it honestly blows in the winter. I have to seriously consider where I drive and park as a result of ice and inclimate weather... I also love to ski, which makes another stab at that AWD.
Hell, maybe even test drive an STi... I'm just one of those guys who doesn't necessarily want to look like a r!cer with a cereal toy car, compensating for... something...
at the same time, I will be driving a 4.4i X5 for the time being... maybe I'll just stick with it for a bit (although the service bill is getting to be ridiculous, I just threw down 3.5k at the stealership and the engine light came back on no more than 3 weeks after I got it back).
I need some other opinions... I realize its 'still my decision' and blah blah blah... but gimme some of your reasons for one car or the other...

Thanks in advance

yeah, the xis are really nice, but the price is a bit too steep...

i'm seriously considering ordering a 1er, but the whole winter season thing, and extreme grade hills in downtown seattle thing are making me think twice...

All you need is dedicated winter and summer wheel/tire setps and you're good to go. Winters in MN are much worse than where you're going, and my car does fine with a good set of winter tires.

The difference is about $2000 for the XI vs the RWD. If you need it AWD then it's pretty much given that you will have to plunge down that extra $2k.

yeah, that is true... but i've found some much bigger price gaps... since i'm not able to afford a new one...

all the xi models are relatively new, hence my dilemma with pricing...
