What is bmw 2002?

i was at a car show and i saw an old bmw 2002, i asked the owner where exactly it would fit in todays lineup, he said it would be the 6 series or the 8 series, it kind of looks like a 3 series to me, so soes anyone know where exactly the 2002 would fit in with todays cars?

the 2002 (e9 chassis) is the predecessor to the 3 series.

Though, the 2002 was quite the remarkable car in the its time! I believe it was the first small form, bare bones sporty coupe with a small engine.

At the same time was the Bavaria/2500/2800 (e3 chassis) which were the predecessors to the 5 series.

E9 chassis was too big. That chassis paved the way for the E24 6-series years down the road.

The 2002 began the idea of "M-cars," spawning the 2002 Turbo. Seen as the first M-series (though unofficially) and giving way to the E30 M3 some 15 years later.

2002tii for the US all the way. 2002 turbo, IF you are fortunate enough to find one.

BMW 2002 has not Based on the E9 chassis.
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=584391
Their different form new. They have got 114 chasis. In that time is not "E" chassis. Now says in Europe for 2002 newer version is 1 series. for example concept tii

Yeah a lot of people consider it to be the car that made BMW what it is today.

In todays lineup it would be like the 135i, or atleast that is what BMW would want you to believe.

I wish to get my hands on one of those cars one day. If I get a tii or turbo leave it stock, if not drop an s14 in it

6 or 8

I spent some time with my uncle this w/e talking bmw. And he was telling me about how his bro (my other uncle i guess lol) had one of these back in the day. He said it was a real cool car. In the city is was like an old VW bug, no power and was very loose. But he was telling me that as soon as you got it above 50mph the car would tighten up and become a blast to drive!
