Brake Pad Warning after 27k miles
My girlfriend has a 2005 325XI and last weekend her brake pad warning light came on. She, although not a great driver, does not drive hard and has never put the car on a track. This seemed early to need pad replacement. Does anyone have insight if this is normal at this mileage level or year?

could be a sensor failure. only way to be sure is to get in there and check the brake pads.
BTW, moving this to the Brake forum, you will likely get better answers there welcome!

This does seem ealry.. it's easy to check.. look through the spokes on the wheels and see how much of the pad is left.. maybe she rides the brakes a lot? If it's still very thick then perhaps the wear sensor wire broke thus triggering light.

Seeing as I believe these should be replaced at Inspection I (30,000) and Inspection II (60,000), and she is close to 30,000, I would say it is normal. She probably wore them out quicker than "normal" though, I'm not familiar with BMWs warranties though I would imagine they are covered.

Could either be that she does need new brakes, or that the sensors are worn. Best way to check is to take a wheel off and check the pads and the front left and rear right sensors.

Sensors don't wear, they are either tripped or not.

Didn't mean worn, I mean faulty or tripped. My bad.

I have ATE Power Disc on the front and Textar brake pads and the pads are worn after 16000 km
Is it because of the discs or is it Textar too soft ?

My brakes just bit the dust after 25K miles. OEM rotors and pads. Not that surprised as I drive up and down steep San Francisco streets every day. I confirmed it was not a faulty sensor (in my case) and indeed the pads were less than 3mm.

I had the issue where there was too much slack in the sensor wire and the wheel rubbed through it - replaced sensor and all was good.
