So doing the ports and getting cams influences the VANOS that badly?

No, replacing all of your internals and running higher compression requires an aftermarket ECU...most people block off their vanos when going that route. If you want to keep vanos, most people use Motec and require professional tuning help...thats expensive as hell. Ask me how I know.

My Ride: E46 330ci Smoked Out
wow, really wasn't expecting this thread to go past a page. So i guess the census is no internal engine work if i want a streetable machine.

now i guess i might order that kit/build the engine WHEN i have enough money to support a track car. I've always wanted a nicely tuned n/a tuning for racing... but then you gotta strip the interior, add rollcage, ect. So maybe i will keep it to cams at most (internal wise) and stick to the street and autox for now...

so now the list for the N/A STREET machine would be

-cams (if i have ENOUGH funds, still a bad purchase, i know)
-headers w/ exhaust
-intake
-lsd (not the drug, ha)
-under drive pullies (anything wrong about this one?)

thanks for all your input guys!

How serious are you about auto-x? If you do all of those things you will be put in a class you can't possibly win in.

My Ride: 2000 328Ci
I'm getting 227 whp (approx. 265 crank hp) with my build.

I also have to run it on 100 octane race gas. My custom Conforti tune did nothing to control the detonation on 91 octane.

227 rwhp (265 crank hp est)

What's the point of having money if you don't have something worth wasting it on?
