initial startup of TS3 M54 330 misfire problem

ok, well, I didnt post this earlier....I started the car and within seconds there was a HORRENDOUS rattling sound - I was certain the engine had spun a bearing or two or more....this is on top of it not running smoothly.

I took a couple hours off to sulk and reflect on all the time spent on this project. Then I decided it could be a noisy power steering pump, or alternator or something....so I went home to remove the belts and start the car again...i tried the car once more and all of a sudden the noise went away

KEEP IN MIND, EACH ONE OF THESE RUN CYCLES IS LESS THAN 5 SECONDS (the car has maybe a minute of run time as of right now).

I turn the car off and go look - the belt is off the car and the belt tensioner is broken...it was the source of the horrendous rattle.

SO THAT IS THE GOOD NEWS - NO SPUN BEARING.

BAD NEWS....I still cannot get the car to idle or run smoothly. It is throwing codes P0300, P0301 and P0306 (in order - multiple mis-fires, mis-fire on cyl 1 and mis-fire on cyl 6)

I have the fortune of having multiple engines sitting here, so I have swapped coils, plugs, wiring harnesses, fuel injectors.....the VANOS is set correctly (confirmed) and the best I can tell all of the sensors are plugged in and are not throwing any codes.

Any ideas? I would be a happy camper if someone points out something I am missing. Also any tricks to getting to the bolts holding the damn tensioner on?? I can't even get to the one bolt on the engine that I just took out of the car.

I have the same issue, just happened tonight I did some research, I think I have a vaccum leak somewhere near the the adjuster valve unit. I have a loud hissing sound just past the intake near the unit. Might be the same with you too.

it turned out to be bent valves on one and six - it wasn't visible until set on a bench and a light set behind the head
