40K you can get a fairly new M3, I think that car is overpriced.

Its a nice vehicle, but I would not want it for a daily driver.

Looks lika a Toyota, Mazda, Honda or any other Japanese car (so does the new 3 series IMHO), I would't buy either.

The E46 (also IMHO) is the last great 3 series and if I ever sell mine (something I never intend to do) it will not be for a BMW.

Chick car! Women really like the look of it and majority (90%) of drivers I have seen are women.

Better off getting the 335i instead, more stuff standard and you can easily make the 135 50K. Much faster and better cars out there at that price.

Eff the 135i. Nice car, but not for $40k. If you're in love with it because of the motor consider this:

You can buy an '01-'03 E46 M3 for $20-$26k and throw the HPF turbo kit on it for the same price as a 135i.

Except you'll have DOUBLE the horsepower and potential for TRIPLE.

While I'm sure its a hoot to drive, I just can't get past how ugly it is. I've seen a few 1 series in person now, and I hate the look of it.

My pops just traded in his M3 for a 135i. He got the 135 before he traded in the M3 so we got to play around with both a little. The 1 was quicker but I think I'm a better driver than my dad Overall it's been a fun little car and I definitely like the simplicity of it, it kind of feels like a Mini Cooper/ 3-series if that makes sense. It defintely feels smaller than the e46 even if its not a whole lot different. Personally I would probably get a 335i over it but my dads an old man and it's only his daily.

I like them, especially the cabrio, but they are WAY overpriced - I'd much rather get an off-lease E92 for the money a new 1-series would cost.

the 1 series is not overpriced for what it offers. the problem is that the 1 series is offered with the same engines and amenities as the 3 series. being the entry level car, it would had made more sense to offer the 1 series with the e90 325i and 330i motors (or even the 328i motor and a 4-banger), less available ameneties, and drop the price by $3K-$5K.

I am a big guy - 6'1 or there about and there is enough on me for women to cuddle. I sat in the 135 at the Australian Motor Show back in 2007 and I have to say, I was astounded by the interior space. I was really comfortable, thought I would be claustrophobic. But it really did it for me in terms of space. However, I looked at the price and almost cried/laughed out loud. In Australian dollars - 72,000 (before adding in government and dealer charges of about 5K). So if you were to convert it into American dollars, you are looking at approximately 68,000 on the road. What the... Plus, being a 1 series, you have to add options - not too many, but some options. You can have a play on it on the BMW Australia website. Its outrageous. For that money, I would wait a few more months, may be a year and buy a second hand 335i. Much more kit, bigger car and same engine. Performance wise, you just loose a few milliseconds - who honestly cares.

I have to agree with some comments made here; the E46 coupe is a classic. The exterior lines flow gracefully and the interior is good and solid. That is why I am looking for one to get next year. Really want a convertible, so Lord Willing, it will come through.

Just my two cents.

(OT - Best "affordable" coupes ever - Current CLK, E46 coupe, Audi S5, Properly specced 335 or possibly 325. But key word is properly specced, with the BMW body kit.)

I totally agree with that - making the top versiom a 130i rather than 135i would make more sense and it'd still be a great car. I still wish BMW had brought over the 130i hatchback.
