A/V Professionals (and not): Have you integrated iPhone/iPod Touch yet?
Most of you know, I'm a Crestron Programmer and am about to delve into the world of iPhone control of automation systems.
Just wondering if any of you have had a chance to mess with this stuff yet and I want to get your opinions on how it works. For those of you who aren't professionals consider this. You have a home entertainment system. Instead of using a remote control, you can use your phone to turn things on and control your system including lights, hvac, etc. Or you can access your home remotely, check security systems, turn on lights, etc. What do you guys think?

Control4 and HAI do it.
I have not done it myself yet. They both seem simple enough and both support Crestron.

I havean itouch for my control4 system. It's very cool. Just like a 3.8" Mini-touch from them, but it doesnt do rhapsody (yet). Other than that, it's very fluid. We'll doing the iPhone thing at a crestron system at a porsche/maserati dealership here soon. The system is done, just have to integrate the iphone.

Which application are you using? I am trying to find one for now I can design and implement a custom UI with. This is only for now until Crestron releases updates to VTP to allow for direct download to the iDevices. I might just say screw it and start delving into the SDK protocols myself.

I saw something about this at Crestron's booth at CEDIA in Denver this year. Didn't grab my interest enough. I was interested more in the HDMI switching and distribution.
Most of our clients prefer to use a dedicated TPMC-8X or equivalent touch panel for control.

Though we make our designs as 'user-friendly' as is determined for the client, some just feel like their phone is more comfortable. And besides, the cool factor is off the chart. As for the HDMI distribution.... We also have an installer that is going to be one of the first to implement the fiber and Crestron's HDMI video distribution system. Guess who get's to take the reigns! ![]() It is going to be more headaches then I can even imagine. Just the design schematics right now are enough to make me want to quit.
