Thumbs down Alpine 7897 review

Deck sounds great but has no features at all and plain as heck!!! Was expecting a little more bright lights from it at night... it looks really plain. It's not the type of deck where someone would get in your car and say "wow, nice deck." I also noticed that i couldn't change the color of the lights on this one... was hoping i could get the amber color to match the rest of the car... it's incredibly hard to set anything on this HU... i used to have a pioneer premier deh-p940 and the display looked 100x more impressive... it was a lot easier to set because of the graphics on the screen (instead of just letters and #'s). much easier to navigate and much more user friendly.. well, the alpine sounds better than the pioneer i've got to give it that... so bottom line, if you want an incredibly boring deck that sounds great get alpine. If you want something to showoff get a pioneer.. just my two cents.

Thanks for the tip. I am debating the 9813 or the 7500. i just don't like that the display on the pioneer is so bright.

yeah i've been wanting an high end alpine deck for quite some time. You get good sound quality, but features and display are lacking. Pioneer is the opposite. Medium sound quality, but all the bells and whistles.

Kenwood seems to be the middle ground. Great sound, and lots of features. The display is layout is so-so I guess. Plus they make an MP3 6cd changer so that makes it easier.
