Navigation woe

Yesterday my 2004 E46 SW started vibrating badly at the front. I stopped the car thinking I might have a puncture, but nothing seemed amiss. It then returned to normal but the BMW Professional Navigation no longer seems to know its position. Judging by where it thinks it is, the failure must have occured at the same time.

In service mode it lists eight satellites, but only has values for one, occasionally two. Fuse 39 is missing, the telematics system (in service mode) refers to a 5 Touring, which, matched to the 2002 date code on the unit, makes me think it has been replaced at some point.

I have checked connections on the back of the unit and even with the GPS cable removed it does not change the read out from the one satellite, this makes me think that the problem is not GPS based.

Anyone any ideas?
