Upgrading speakers Help

I own a 2002 325i with the regular stereo. I was thinking about upgrading the stereo system, but I'm not sure what I should get.
I don't know much about stereo upgrades. Anyway, I wanted to keep the stock radio so I don't loose the steering wheel controls, and was thinking about just upgrading the speakers. Is this a good idea? What speakers do you suggest me getting which won't require a lot of work when replacing them? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

u should get 3 way components for the front. size is 5 1/4 unless u want to get a bigger size/better sound and having to drill new holes (a ***** to do). any aftermarket speakers will sound better than the stock ones if u give them enough power. u will have to get an amp along with ur speakers.
