i wouldn't have DVR'd that anyway.

i don't commit to a technology unless i really need it... when it makes my life better or easier and the benefits justify or outweigh the cost. DVR is not worth the effort for my 2 hours of tv per week. i mostly watch DVDs or just channel surf.

I would think it takes more effort to program a VCR than a DVR, which might be the simplest thing in the world to do...

I have our 2 DVR's record like 5-6 shows, so there is always something on. =)

programming either one is of no concern to me. any one of these things on their own fails the cost/benefit test...

- doing the research on DVRs to know which one i want
- buying the DVR
- paying for the service (assuming there is a fee, which i don't know because i haven't done the research)

for 2 hours of non-specific tv. that's like telling my dad he should research, buy and maintain a computer for the 2 emails a year that he sends.

- DVR comes from cable company. It replaces your existing cable box with a cable box that records. You dont buy anything... just generally a $8/mth fee or something...

My parents, both 60+ have 2 DVRs at their house and they watch almost no tv... if you sign up for cable service nowadays you just generally get a dvr...

do you really watch that little TV? I'm on about 3-4 hours /night. haha

actually that's good to know... didn't realize that's how it works. i was thinking tivo. still i have basic cable, no cable box, and haven't signed up for new cable in 9 years.

yeah, its basically tivo built into the cable box. MUCH easier to hook up. If you have a high def TV (I'm guessing you dont here with an analog cable box), Tivo is a pain... I like the no buying equipment route and ease of use of the cable company DVR

i should really start a thread on tv watchage. the amount of tv people watch is mind-boggling to me, and i'm not an anti-tv person by any means.

Is it true that you can only have 1 stream of HD at a time? So if you are recording a HD show, you cannot record or watch another?
