Price of Blu-ray movies...

Just curious -

Does anyone know if the price of Blu-ray movies will eventually level out to the price of DVD movies? Or will the price differences remain the same as long as the DVD format is still relevant?

I dunno, but to me it just does not make any real sense to pay $30 - $40 on movies. There are only a small few titles that I'd even consider paying $25+ for the extra Hi-Def of Blu-ray. Do I have a weak argument here or do I utter the sentiment of many?

well your argument is valid if you pay full retail. But then...who does. Amazon, avsforums.com and ebay are the best places to buy Blu-ray. Every movie is at least 30-40% off. that makes the average brand new new-release that would normally retail for 34.99 come out to around 23 to 24 dollars. You can get "300" for around 10 now. If you shop soley at best buy, then prepare for a empty wallet as local shops charge retail.

I bought 300 this week for `16.99 and I thought that was a good deal. But I will not pay 30-40 bucks for a movie.

I think the price will come down as the movies become more popular and the studios start to get a return on their initial investment.
Most of the blu ray movies they sell are current movies. But as they start to redo the old ones , I think those will be cheaper and will bring down the price of all of them. I was at Fry's and saw a few blu rays for 7.99 but the movies themselves were so pitiful ...I would not buy them at any price.
I had to laugh because I saw Casablanca in Blu Ray and I do not think of high definition and all the available contrasting colors and B and W movies in the same sentence.

well, it depends. I dont honestly trust used dvds, and only trust used blu-rays (since they are more scratch resistant) from AVS forum members. Generally speaking, avsforum members will be more careful with blu-ray discs than the average joe six pack who tosses the disc to the dog...

We have a used bluray/dvd/cd/vhs/video game store here in town and its awesome. I have yet to spend more then $8 on a used DVD and all of them were in good shape and had no problems. That said, I buy new blu-rays for cheaper online then the used ones in that store. They are still $25 for good used titles.

When the original DVD format launched plenty of movies were $20, $30 and more. VHS tapes back in the 80's were $60 and more. They will come down, it just takes a few years.

MovieStop sells them for $5-$15 previously viewed. I got Flags of Our Fathers and Letters Home from Iwo Jima from them for a total of $12.00 for both.
