XM Radio Reception In Cabin Question

I just finished installing an XM radio(the delphi one) in the ash tray in my wifes C320. I'm also going to install a similiar setup in the bimmer. I get seemingly perfect reception by installing the antenna in the back window of the car. The installation guide say that you should never install the antenna inside the cabin of a vehicle, and says if you have had it installed in the cabin go back to the installer and make them do it on the outside.
Why do they want you to do this. Anyone else had any experience with an in cabin install.

Works perfect for me in the back shelf. More than pleased with the reception.

My Ride: Goes to eleven
I was actually thinking of posting another rave review of my delphi unit. I have my antenna on the back deck, and I'm very pleased with it's performance. It drops where you'd expect it to - under big bridges (and not every one), heavily tree covered streets (and not for but a couple of seconds). Reception is always 3 bars when not interupted by structures or trees. The small inconvenience of the rare drop outs outways an ugly antenna on the roof or trunk.

I can probably snap some pictures of my Delphi SkyFi install if you want. Thought it might help.
