1999 E46 Manual transmission interchange
I have a 1999 E46 328I -- sport pkg -- 5 spd -- original clutch --with 205,000 miles. Due to an oiled clutch disc that is grabbing, I need to replace the clutch -- the tranny has been very sloppy for a while, even with all linkage bushings replaced, and the fifth gear detent is gone. Therefore I want to replace the tranny with one with less miles, which I will get it from a recycler.
My question is - which manual 5 speeds will be a direct exchange with mine. I am assuming a 1999 or 2000 328 E46 will fit. I also assume a 325 five speed is the same? But does anyone know for sure which other years/models will directly replace with my 1999 E46 5 spd manual. Your knowledge will be appreciated. Thanks -- Dale in West Palm Beach FL. |

from what I'm reading, the 5-speeds from the E46 330s as well as the E36 M3s are the same. I would assume the ones from the 323 and 325 would also fit, but I believe the gearboxes aren't rated for as much torque as the 328/330 gearbox.
