I feel stupid...exhaust question

I was noticing today that my car's exhaust (03 325xi) only comes out of one of the tips on its dual-tip. when i plugged that tip, i could feel it on the bottom of the muffler, behind the tip. It doesn't sound like it has a leak or that anything is wrong, but now its got me wondering. so, am i as stupid as i feel? go easy, and if you can squeeze in something useful, that would be great.

No need to go to the dealer to get laughed at, we can take care of that for you right here for free.

Your muffler should have a vacuum actuated butterfly valve that blocks the exhaust on one side at idle. It opens up under acceleration, or when the car is off. Many people block off the vacuum line so that the valve remains open at all times. Search "golf tee mod" for hundreds of threads on the subject.

I appreciate your "easy" reply! I noticed this last night, and had a chance to take a better look today. I noticed what you said above. Guess I need to spend more time with my car. Again, thanks for your help!
