I have a 2001 E46, and I got a spare key from the dealer, but the trunk,lock/unluck buttons do not work, is there a procedure so the new key can function ? thanks

Programming is a dealer business. But it's possible that just battery is dead. Try recharging it by driving with the key. The key in ignition while driving automatically recharges the battery. If it still doesnt work it probably has to be reprogrammed.

you can charge the fob battery via the key ?
I find that hard to believe, as the key is one solid piece of metal, there is no way for there to be a (+) & (-) side to charge any type of battery,

It's hard to believe but it's true. That's what it saids in owner's manual too. Drive it around for like 20 minutes and see what happens.

Is this the actual re-programme procedure for the key fob?

Sounds weird you gotta turn a/c on & off

Where did you get AC?

But yes, there is an actual procedure for re-programming a key to the central locking system. Use the search feature and you can find it.
