I doubt seriously the blu ray is better.

Chances are it was your imagination.

I was at Sams the other day and so pissed off because they had the Pioneer plasma settings all screwed up and the LCDs were tweaked.

Go to best buy and buy a monster HDMI and a monster component and test them. You can return if not better.

Here, try this setting in your TV (write down your old settings)

Preset: Dynamic
Contrast: 65
Brightness: 45
Sharpness: 75
Color 45
Color Temp: Cool2
Digital NR : ON
DNIE: OFF

This is one on my presets for TV mode. I have a 63" Sammy but it is ISF calibrated so it may be different results.

If does look better try this:

Con : 75
Bright: 75
Sharp : 75
Color: 35
Color Temp : Norm
Dig NR: Normal
DNIE: OFF

adjust the color up until flesh tones are pink then back down 5 notches.

try these settings on each preset, they differ internally and will not be the same even with the same settings.

WRITE DOWN your currents settings first.
Great info, if I remember correctly you are in this biz...one question tho

I thought Monster cables were a waste and cheaper HDMIs were just as good? Am I wrong?

Actually, there's an entire thread devoted to that very question:

Cheap HDMI Cables - Too Good to be True?

Can't believe no one has mentioned this...

Have you watched Transformers on your setup? The difference can very well be in the movie itself.

Yeah, I just watched it again a few weeks ago, I didn't have this reaction while watching it.....

Watch CARS on Blu Ray, saw it at the Sony Store, and was blown away, felt like you were looking through a window the whole time, unreal.

You see anamorphic vehicles come to life when you look out your window?

it depends on how far from the bluray player is from the tv. if it's less than 6ft, any cable will do. more than that, then it will vary

Whattup sillie

...you mean, it depends on how long the cable is (i.e. it could be right next to the tv, but have a 100 foot cable)

I had a 30 ft Monster (mid grade, can't remember which series) and a 30 ft monoprice, and they both looked the same. If I remember right it was from a cable box so that could be the reason too.

I prefer the quality build over a cheap cable myself. In theory, there should not be a night and day difference between a short expensive and cheap cable that are both working perfectly.

There is however quite a difference between long HDMI cables of different qualities.

Keep in mind that HDMI cables are NOT all on or all off. They DO vary in quality if ALL information is not trasfered properly. Spikes, sparkles, color shift, etc are all problems with cables that WORK but are NOT delivering ALL the info all the time.

I told him to swap out the cables for HDMI and component so he could rule out the cheap cable as the problem.

Keep in mind that I am partial to better more expensive cables because the difference in cost of the cables in tiny in ratio of the overall job I install and less than a service call to fix a bad/cheap cable. I also run as many 50' cables as I do 3' cables.

In addition, sometimes component cables actually look better than HDMI, but that is a whole other long discussion.
