great post! did your fuel filter come with the pressure regulator as well? i know that on the '99's it's integrated. just wondering.

i just got off the phone with my dealers, those c0ck eaters want 500 bucks for those 3 parts. including 100 for the fuel filter!!!

is there anywhere i can get some or all of these parts cheaper? this repair must be done, but id rather not have my pants pulled down over the price

2002 e46 ci fuel filter comes with a regulator.

are you in so. cali? im a bmw, benz, porsche parts broker... im assuming you have a 330 ci, $385for all three. 65 for the filter, 250 for the pump and 70 for the sending unit.

no im in state college pa, 16801. would this not save me anything because of shipping?

I couldn't get a calculation from USPS right now but I tried FedEx and for a 2 day delivery for a 4 lbs box (could be less weight)....is 39.47
I'm sure it's cheaper with USPS but I think they're doing maintenance at the moment with their website. If you want, you could do your shipping calculation, I'm in Orange County 92831. I usually sell products locally so pardon me if I'm not informed of the shipping rates for domestic long distance but I'm assuming your max savings would be around 80 to 100 bucks because of the shipping expense, if you said the dealer was giving the parts for 500.
just let me know if ever...

it has one fuel pump unit and one fuel sending unit.

Thanks for the DIY! I have been smelling pretty strong fuel odors around the outside of the car after fill ups and just figured it was some kind of bleed off until I saw a drip the other day. I jacked the car up, looked underneath and could see where the fuel had been running down the side of the tank. I was told that the o-ring that goes around the fuel sending unit & fuel pump sometimes fail. I purchased a new sending until since I was going to be in there anyway and went to work following the DIY. Once I got to the old fuel sending unit I found fuel pooled up on top which let me know it wasn't the o-ring. What I found was on the old fuel sending unit there is a (What I call) useless tit that sticks up and must have been making contact with the cover. It looked as if had been rubbed down and finally developed a very tiny pin hole. Just enough of a hole to let a very, very tiny amount of fuel out but not big enough to set off any kind of codes. Anywho, new part in, no fuel leak and problem solved.

The fuel tank has 2 separate chambers with each chamber having its own fuel level sending unit. One of the fuel level senders is part of the fuel pump assembly. Thus when you buy a new fuel pump, a new fuel level sender comes with it. The computer, I believe, takes the average reading to indicate the amount of fuel left in the tank.

It's not that I uploaded too many pics as I don't use that account anymore, it's that the pics in that account have been viewed too many times this month (from the DIYs and stuff I post) so the bandwidth has been exceeded.
