EXACTLY..

I really wish they took them to a track and got some lap times. I really doubt anyone here would put money on the hyundai.

The people who own BMW's own them for specific reasons. They don't own them because they are the best, or fastest cars; because they simply aren't. Calling a car "*hitty" when you have never owned or driven it is extremely narrow minded. The fact is, the E46 platform is old. Newer cars are going to be better/faster; that's just evolution. A Ferrari 308 was fast for it's time. However, today there are econo boxes that are faster...

So who's trading up?? I'll have to take a test drive just for curiosity...who knows it might be pretty good.

Let's also not forget about gen 1 products and Hyundai's previous repair problems. I'm not sure who said that Hyundai would be cheaper in the long run, but everyone i've ever known with a hyundai has HATED it and watched it disintegrate. So can the new ones be better? Perhaps.. but only time will tell and i wouldn't put 35k into doing the test run. Hyundai would have a VERY long way to go to get me to buy one.

Do you buy a new car every year?

I used to trade cars out every other year. No real reason other than I liked going through the motions of "buying a car". However, I'm not sure what that has to do with this conversation.

^That new cars aren't always better, and this new Hyundai isn't one of them.

Better is a "relative" term. To some people, "faster" is better. To others, faster slalom speeds mean better. To others, it's just the look of a car that is "better". For instance (just making a point, not meant as something factual), a VW Golf could do better on a small road course but that doesn't make it a "better car" now does it? Maybe not to you, but to someone else it might. Your opinion won't be any better or worse than that individuals because it's just than; an opinion.

There are many cars which are "faster" than the M3. People buy M3's (or any car for that matter) for specific reasons. Those that bought an M3 didn't get it for it's quarter mile times (if they did, they bought the wrong car), they didn't get because it's an autox demon (and it's not), etc... For those reasons, who cares if Hyundai brings out a decent performing car? The fact that people automatically judge it is pathetic. Those people aren't automobile enthusiast, they are just BMW followers.

At some point, the "cheap" cars will overtake the M3 (just look at the E36). Is that today, or tomorrow? Regardless, it will happen.

for me it looks pretty nice, but still i prefer the classic lines of m3. and as i see it m3 is an old car that would calmly come to the start lane, while gen would be the aggressive one making a lot of noise that might not necessary be the winner. compare it to 350z or g35/37 not to an m3. just by looking at them they are two totally different worlds.

I agree with you. It does depend what you want in a car and then you can compare that to others. Hyundai doesn't exactly have a long rep for making performance cars, yet. I look for overall quality and performance, and I'm very sceptical about Hyundai being that kind of car. Time will tell...

If they put Rhys Millen in that Huyndai, i'm putting my life savings on him rather any of us idiots in M3s.

Personally, I love the Genesis coupe and Sedan. Hyundai is already above the quality levels at any of the domestic manufacturers and only another few years until they are equals to the Japanese and Europeans. I totally respect that company and the direction they are going. In my book any positive competition will only force other manufacturers to step up the game.
