Will I be able to hear a noticeable difference with an amp?

Here is my current setup:

Kenwood KDC-MP438U Receiver puts out 22watts RMS to the four speakers

4 - Polk Audio db691 speakers which accept power up to 100watts RMS



If I add in an amp...maybe this one Alpine MRP-F300 which will put out 50 watts RMS to all 4 speakers will I notice a huge change in sound? My end goal is to have the speakers play noticeably louder than they do currently. The speakers are on my boat(not my M3) where there is a lot of noise so the louder the speakers the better. But I'm on a tight budget(trying to spend less than $200) so I'm trying to decide if it is even worth it to add an amp?

go with a 100 rms to each speaker and it will be big change in sound..

How about the 50 I mention above? A jump to 100rms per channel is a HUGE price jump. like 4x more

It will be noticeable but not huge... Also, Crutchfield is overpriced audio equipment..

BTW I have like brand new Diamond 500.4 that pushes 75 watts per channel and will make a huge difference...

a high powered amp is absolutely the right choice.

You really need to go with the 100 watt amp. Note that you might not get a "massive" increase in volume, but you should be able to play the speakers a little louder without it distorting than running them off headunit power. The sensitivity of the speakers and the materials the tweeter is made out of make a big difference in how loud you will be able to go. Metal tweeters can typically get much louder than a soft dome type tweeter.

Ok so my search begins for a 100watt amp at a decent price. Looks like I'll be in search of an used amp cus the 100watt 4channel new ones are about $400.

ok so follow me on this 22w rms is a little more than 3db less power than 50 wrms. 3 db being half power. Less all the losses etc... you speakers should sound almost half again as loud. That sounds like a lot but it really isnt much. So like everyone else said get the bigger amp.
