OEM iPod link to business radio.. iPod stays on when connected?

just picked up my 05 vert with ipod link hooked up but i noticed that if i leave the ipod connected even when turned off, the ipod stays powered on and charging through the car? is this the same idea as having stuff plugged into the cigarette lighter always being on?

This is normal since day one of the BMW iPod kit. DICE kits have a sleep mode in which the iPod will not draw any power while the key is removed.
