How do you turn off BMW assist?
The prior owner was the original owner and used the BMW Assist that came with the purchase...and then dropped it.
My issue is that I installed a Stealthone (for my hardwired V1) and I want to use the voice button for muting the V1 (built in functionality of the Stealthone, but only works if Assist is disabled). When I push the button, it tries to contact BMW and then says something like "service not active"... Anyone know how to turn it off?! Thanks. |

Probably requires dealer programming. Since you don't have a subscription, it is not active. I am not actually sure that you really turn it off in the TCU module through dealer programming, but you could call your SA at the dealer and ask them. If it can be done it would require a BMW computer, some independent shops that specialize in BMWs have it, but not many.
Still, the button sends a command over the iBus and the command should be seen by both the Assist TCU and the Stealthone. Does the V1 mute when you press the button? You could also try removing (or disconnecting) the TCU unit, assuming you don't have a version with bluetooth (and use the bluetooth), with an '04 car you would have had to replace the original TCU with a bluetooth capable one.

The Stealthone is not seeing the "command". The instruction manual states it will only work if you do not have the voice command off.
I'll have to look into the TCU location and if I can simply pull it, or if I need a replacement, or reprogramming. Thanks for the insights. Anyone else? |

You can try unplugging the module to see what happens. It is located on the left side of the trunk small silver box usually mounted towards the top.

Is there any "risk" to just pulling it?
I have no clue how it is integrated with the system, but I hope it is not like pulling a hard drive from a computer and then have it not be able to operate due to a null pointer (or something like that). Does anyone know this to be "safe"? If so, I'll try it this weekend~ |
