Will i need another Battery for this set up?
right now i have 10' kicker L7 with Mtx 600/1 mono amp coming out the ski pass. It sounds good but not good enough without a box. I plan to get two 10' Alpine Type R with a Punch 500/2 amp and a capacitor. If i add that set up in my trun, Do I need another battery to power them? or will i be fine with a proper install? I dont really want to get another battery and i dont have the space in my trunk for one.

I hope your not adding it with the setup in there already. Regardless, you shouldnt need another battery as long as yours is in good health. Also, dont waste your money on a capacitor. They are a waste of money and put more strain on your electrical system.

![]() 2 subs and an amp wont put nearly the strain these SUV's with there 400lights, a winch that could pull a tractor trailer up a cliff and ten 15's all individually amped with cute little lights that go to the music! (ok maybe i exagerated alittle) But 2 12's will be just fine man sorry to pick on ya!

For 1 thing. I don't recommend having two different brands of subs running off different amplifiers. Sound quality will not be as good.
You most likely will not need a new battery until you test it all out. It should be able to handle the subs but don't exactly know. If your battery does die after installing the subs, then go with another battery. But keep in mind, you should also get a high powered alternator to handle the extra battery The capacitor is not needed so I wouldn't waste your money. Only get one if you notice your lights dimming when the sub hits. |

i never recommend capacitors to anyone. They are the biggest joke in audio. If you get dimming in your car, upgrade the battery. All a cap does is add more strain to the electrical system.

with your setup, you should be able to run the 2 subs with no problems. I run 1300wrms to my sub and 125wrms to each door and i get ZERO dimming.
You should have no problems.

you really need 3 subs? I'd say throw out the kicker and put in 2 alpines.

As others said, adding another amp + subs is not a good idea. The reason is that you have a sub (designed to be in a small enclosure) firing into the ski pass, using the whole trunk as an enclosure. On top of this you are going to add two more subs in a box. This will most likely cause cancellation.
Keep the amp you have, ditch the L7 (which is highly inneficient), and get new subs + a properly designed enclosure. No need to add a second battery (this will actually cause more strain to your car's electrical system than help). If you do have an old battery 5 years +, might not hurt to upgrade with a high-performance battery (optima, stinger, etc). If you have already have a cap, won't hurt to put it in. It is not going to drain your electrical system as others suggested. If you don't have one, don't bother. |

I second that fact that capacitors are a waste. I had a beater ford contour with a walmart "never start" battery lol. I ran a infinity class d 1300W sub amp with two alpine type r. Also a mtx 400w amp bridged for my component speakers. I ran this for two years and never had any issues or dimming. If you have problems there would be issues with you electrical system , ex battery or alternator cant keep up.

adding another battery is just gonna decrease the life of ur alternator. i have a rockford t10001 amp and 2 T2's and the only dimming i ever experienced was the interior lighting of the trunk

Okay guys, change of plan, i just found a great deal 2 10' kicker L7 and mtx 81001 mono amp. If i install that with my current set up, Do i need to upgrade my alternator or Battery? Im hoping i wont have to. If it does then i probably just install the 2 10' L7 and the mtx 81001 amp and disconnect my current set up. Any advice?

Go with one or the other. Running 2 in a box and 1 IB is going to cause issues. Disconnect your current setup and run the 2 10s in a box or keep the one you have.
