Yep, thats the shade button. Strange you don't have an electric shade. Or do you and it just doesn't work? Look for a long slot across the back shelf. If you have one, then maybe the fuse for the shade is blown. If no slot, we are back to strange.

Going from your sig pic, it appears you have a 'vert? If so, it probably doesn't have the shade (since the boot cover is solid and in place whether the top is up or down). Probably one of those inadvertant build oversights at the factory and they installed the full panel of buttons. Happens alot, especially at TS-10 here in SC.

The sunshades are in the OEM parts, but the retrofit looks like it would be over $800 for the roller and housing if they are needed.

If all the parts are in place then you might only have to repair it.

What's the sport button for?

I'm missing the tire pressure indicator button and sport button on my car. (mines an '04, tire pressure came out in '05)

The rear electric shade is pretty obvious, I will go and take a picture shortly...

sorry, your saying the sport/manual mode on the automatic e46's changes throttle response?

link please? i have a hard time believing that changes anything to do with throttle response. as far as i know, only thing sport mode does is change the shift points of the transmission (stays in gear longer if in a situation of full throttle - no throttle - full throttle allowing you to use the engine more effectivly, instead of upshifting like most autos would do in an off throttle situation.

It makes the throttle response more linear.

Ignore the labels, but with Sport off, the throttle feels like the green line. With it on, the throttle feels like the red line.

at some point, someone has replaced the switching console in your car. When the dealer orders a new one, they come with every button available on the car by default. You can purchase covering caps to disable any options that are not installed in your car (such as the rear sunshade)

The sport button function in an M is different than the sport button function in a non-M. As said, M sport button changes throttle response. It has nothing to do with the tranny as Ms only have manual or SMG. Shift speed for SMG is handled by a seperate button on the shifter console.
