There was a time when you didn't need to leave Ontario to see a Formula 1 race.
In 1977 I went to my first Formula 1 race at Mosport in Ontario. Jody Scheckter won the race beating Ferarri, Mclaren, Penske, Lotus etc. in a Canadian built and owned Wolf. The six wheeled Tyrell driven by Ronnie Peterson came in second that day and made fastest lap of the race. And there was that little known Canadian who drove a Ferrari for the first time that day when Niki Lauda retired unexpectedly. What was his name again? ![]() ![]() The little Canadian showed up again the following year and I remember watching live as he won the the 1978 Canadian Grand Prix the first year on the island in Montreal. On the podium, he sprayed a magnum sized bottle of Labatt's beer rather than champagne. I heard they named the racing circuit after him. . Last edited by bmwbun; 10-18-2009 at 07:33 AM. |

Outstanding mate! Button clinched the title this am. I would love to see that track! Try to say to Kimi for me! Hope he gets a good manufacturer next year!

F1 in the 70's was so badass, people died all the time, now look at the Quali in Brasil...

Today was a really exciting race. I'm glad to hear Canada is going to get their race back. Now only if that troll Bernie will appoint another US race...
