somebody is interested in my comp whaaaaa!!

I posted an ad on craigslist yesterday and got some responses. this guy locally about 8 miles from my house said he is very interested and wants to look at it then if he wants it hes got the cash. that was over the phone we did email each other a few times first. my question is should i meet him at a public place i was planning on bringing somebody with me as well but the catch is the computer is a desktop so i don't want to carry all over town he offered to come to my house and he also said i could come to his, when i said how about panera he didn't care as well, so i'm just wondering what you guys do when you sell stuff locally do you go to their house if they offer or wold you meet publicll??

If I'm selling something I always prefer to meet somewhere.

I usually just have them come to my house. If someone is going to jump me on my turf for <$100 worth of my used crap, they are in for a world of hurt.

I always meet up at a public populated location, for safety reasons.

I always sell stuff on craigs list and have the people pick it up. I have it ready at the door and bring it outside. I never let them in my house though. Does this guy need to see the desktop work? How are you going to accomplish this at a panera?

I sell stuff on craigslist too and I never felt comfortable letting strangers come to my house (never gave an address to anyone before). If I'm selling, I set up a meeting location at a public spot like a parking lot of a mall and meet up there for an exchange. If I'm selling an expensive item I usually bring a friend to hang out near us in his car while we make an exchange. Buying is differnet... I go to peoples houses but thats their decision (which I don't really think is smart but thats on them).

Yea, thats a bit of a tough spot for you if he wants to see the computer run (anyone with half a brain would before dishing out $700).

One thing you may want to keep in mind about him not knowing where you live is that if he buys the computer and it breaks for whatever reason, how do you know the guy isn't a bit crazy and will not come back to where you live and demand his money back evern though the problem may have been his own... thats always my primary concern and why I never give out an address.

I mean, 99% of the time nothing bad is going to happen, but you still have to think about these things. If I was in your situation selling a computer for $700, I would probably make the trip to the guy's house with a friend (if his not too far) and let him hook up the computer and if everything is good you got a sale. This will give you a chance to get his address and see if he lives in a decent neighborhood... if he does the chances of everythign being smooth are high..... now if he lives in the hood, I would weigh the risk vs reward again and make a decision. $700 isn't a small enough amount of money to not worry about getting jacked and staying safe. Just my opinion though... better safe than sorry.
