2006 M3 or 2006 M5?
I'm trying to decide between a 2006 M3 and a 2006 M5, both with SMG. I don't need four doors, so that's not a relevant factor. Ay thoughts?

That is tough but I would probably do the m3 then try to get an HPF Turbo Kit also you can probably do more mods on the E46

No kids. I previously owned a 2006 530i and loved that car. I sold it to buy a 2006 911C4S, which was just OK. Highly overrated I think. I don't want the V8 M3 because I like the E46 body style better. Help!!!!

Please don't refer to it as a "v8 M3", it's an E9x M3.

So why are you even considering the M5? It has a V8 engine and you like the E46 styling?
I would personally take the M5 and I don't even like sedans!

It would be great if we could stay on topic, rather than digress with irrelevant comments like "please don't refer to it as a V8 M3." That's precisely the kind of comment that degrades forums like these. If it isn't useful, please don't taint the thread. Thanks. In other words, stay on point.

It seems that the M5 wastes more gas, costs more to insure, and is much more complicated (iDrive). BUT...it has 500 hp! That helps you forget all the cons. The e46 is simpler, and the design is timeless. I've heard that the M5 has an tech problems as well. Yet, I can't seem to let it go as an option.

I would get the E60 M5, not only is it a beast, but it looks amazing. The E46 M3 although is an amazing car is starting to look a bit dated.

hey mfpseal,
i'm relatively new to the forum and some people here are as mature as a 5 year old guarding his toys and beliefs, which is why I don't bother posting much. However, there is a ton of useful info in here--but when it comes to asking for opinions, someone always says something irrelevant. as for your question: M5 is baller status.

![]() OP: I'm guessing you can afford the M5, otherwise you wouldn't be considering it as one of the two options. Therefore, I humbly suggest the M5! Enjoy whichever one you pick, and let us know what you decide! |

The prices are not that far apart. High 30's low 40's. Not too bad. I'm only considering cars with extended warranties and fewer than 30k miles.
