Pilot Sport 2 vs. Pilot Sport 2 All Season

Does anyone have experience with PS2 tires and PS2 All Seasons?
If one lives in an areaike LA OR San Diego, where weather is mild and there is little rain, does it make sense to get the All Seasons anyway?
I guess I'm just looking for input as to which tire is best and whether getting the All Season just in case is worth it.

Unless you will be driving that car up to the mountains or somewhere will it gets down into the 40s, the all seasons will not be needed.

All season tires usually last longer, miles wise and sometimes cheaper than summer tires. But for performance in mild weather conditions with spirited driving, summer tires might be better.

I run the PS2 A/S and did a bit of research before deciding on them over the PS2's, and everything I read were good. They aren't supposed to be as sticky as the PS2's, but they are I'm very happy with them. I do live in the NW tho... I was getting the *BEEP* and flashing 37* last night.. so All seasons are a must around here...

I love the PS2, car is glued to the road. But as said, when in very low temperatures, it's like having plastic tires

Most high performance summer tires carry a warning "not intended for freezing or below temps". You be the judge for your situation.

I spoke to tire rack and they said that unless I plan on driving aggressively often, the all seasons are a better bet. They are cheaper, and they last almost twice as long. I rarely drive aggressively, and I do not track. I'd like to hear more from those with the all seasons to see if they noticed a significant decline in performnace in dry conditions.

I'm running the all seasons on the rear and I have no complaints.

You should not see any performance lose with dry roads. If anything, you will see it some with wet weather.

I did some research and found the PS2 all season tire very good, bit not great in heavy cornering due to weak sidewalls. Interestingly, their performance in wet weather is not as good as several summer high performance tires.
Based on my research, I've decided on Bridgestone RE-11. Does anyone have any experience with these tires, I'd love to hear about them.

You really don't need the PS2s if you are just casually driving around.

Sounds like you need to make up your mind. First you say you rarely drive aggressively but then you are worried about giving up performance with an all season. An all season is a good choice for your climate and will have more than adequate performance for daily driving. No need to spend more money more frequently by buying performance you don't need, go with an all season.

I do in fact rarelly drive aggresively, but when I do, I want to know my tires will be there for me. The question is whether all seasons are up to the task of handlingaggressive driving on that rare occasion. I''ve been driving over 20 years and never had a moving violation. Ice and snow are not factors, although cold weather and rain are. Based on my research, the Potenza RS 11 tire has bettter wet weather handling than the PS2 all weather series. So, I've decided to opt for the Potenza tires. I would just like to hear from those who have experience with the tires.

These are currently the autocross tire to beat. Their grip is absolutely incredible. Just waiting for my PS2s to wear out to switch over.

Heh, you should do a little more research in that case. Bridgestone RE-11's will give you a rougher ride, cost more, and expect them to last less than 10,000 miles. But in exchange for these things, you get very high levels of grip, steering response, and performance at the limit. This is the nature of Extreme Performance Summer Tires; high levels of performance, and that's all.

If you are looking into something for a daily driver, I'd suggest either Max Performance or High Performance Summer tires. Max Performance summer tires are usually more expensive and don't last as long, put offer good performance and ride comfort at the same time. This is why they are standard on the M3. High Performance Summer tires being essentially the same but a little less performance and ride comfort in exchange for longer tires life and lower costs.

Wow, OK, back to the drawing board. What about Pirreli Nero S tires? They have a 45k mile warranty.

I have the All Season Tires - Mileage/Wear have been good but I'm not crazy about their behavior in wet weather however they're fine in the snow.

First of all, you're talking about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus right? Because I've never heard of a PS2 A/S...

Anyways, it sounds to me like you'd be much better served by an A/S tire. If you aren't going to use the performance the majority of the time you drive the car then you are just needlessly wearing away rubber with an Extreme/Max Performance Summer Tire. They really do last half as long so you end up paying twice as much for the Summer tires. If you don't regularly drive the car "aggressively" then your idea of high performance driving is probably someone else's idea of taking a stroll to the grocery store

Honestly though, I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my 325i and I think that they are incredible. It always blows me away how much grip they have for an A/S tire. Sure, I wouldn't trust them to take me around turns on track at 90MPH+ but that isn't what they're designed for.

I've had them on for about 3k miles and they are one of the nicest tires I've had on the E46. Quiet & comfortable but still offer plenty of feedback. Not to mention they are pretty much the best tire I've ever had in the rain.
