Cutting a hole in the metal door frame

I've installed few years ago a pair of hertz energy speakers in the factory location (on the plastic door panel). It's a perfect fit, almost too perfect since the magnet is touching the metal door frame. I read somewhere here that by cutting a hole in the back of the speaker it will work in a bigger volume, thus the speaker will reproduce low frequences better. When i told the guy who installed my speakers to do so, he said that the window glass is too close and it will be blocked by the speaker magnet. Is this true ? The magnet will probably go inside a bit since it's kinda squeezed between the metal frame and the plastic panel but not by much . Doing this i will probably lose some of the rattles since the speaker will no longer touch the back side of the door. Anyone done this ? Was my installer right or wrong ?

I found a few threads on here describing where people have left the speaker mounted on the door panel and still cut the hole into the door and experienced better sound quality. So mounting the speaker to the door may not be necessary. However, there is some space created for additional mounting depth by cutting the doors without interfering with the window.

you will gain a few mm of depth by cutting the doors, but not a lot, maybe 10mm at the most, so it would depend how tight it is in there at the moment if you'll have problems. although if youve got the door card fully on, it probably wont go much further anyway.

i say give it a go... or better yet, mount the speaker to the door instead of the door card.
