Using a GPS to Find Speed Traps?
ok I have a GPS which is cool, but I found this online and wondered if it works like it says it does, basicly you down load poi maps that are updated as needed. when your moving around in your car, it 'alerts you' to 'known' speed traps and traffic cameras.
Sounds cool ( I want it), does anyone on here use something like this? I think there are a couple of sites that do this. this is the one I was looking at. http://phantomALERT-review.blogspot.com/ |

My iPhone has this app called Trapster and gets updated actually pretty frequently. It alerts you of other user's submitted recorded speed traps, and you can also log your own observed logs. That would be cool for a GPS, but I personally wouldn't use it because of my routes usually the cops sit in the middle of the median so meh.

TomTom allows you to load these for free from their TomTom Home software, but of course you can never be sure how accurate or complete any of these databases are.

Your city/state does not tell you where speed cameras are set up?

For those using a carpc, thunderstick on that forum integrated trapster into roadrunner. He is now working on a standalone version as well. Technically, this has reached the level of being able to communicate with a v1 over usb/rs-232 which signals to alarm for and which to ignore. The end result is really trick if I say so myself...
