Check engine light!!
Last night I followed this dyi http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...&highlight=maf because I was experiencing rough idles. Of course someone ask if by removing the the assembly hose if the check engine light came on the, guy said no but my luck mine did. Also my car is idling rougher then before. Anyone have any advice or can tell me if the check engine light will go off by itself. It wasnt and has never come on until I did this last night. Will I have to buy the peake tool to get it off? This sucks!!!

I think you can turn it off yourself by holding the trip odometer button for 30 seconds then starting the car and continuing to hold until it clears. This how I remember doing it, maybe its a bit different but try either way. The bigger issue here is not the fact that you have a check engine light but that your car now is having rough idle problems. The check engine light may be an eye sore but merely clearing it from your cluster won't fix anything. Go have the code read at a trusted shop and have them tell you what the problem is....or buy a tool yourself

So I took my car in because my check engine light came and the effects of me following me the above thread. So he refered me to bmw because he didnt know what the codes he pulled up read. There were 4 codes total that he wrote down. I think two are wrong because I have checked the forums and cant find two of the four codes. The two I did find I have no idea what they mean and what I need to do to fix them. The codes are P0174,P0177 that I cant find and P0184,P0186 are the ones I found that say Fuel Control mixture rich, (bank 1 sensor 1 and Bank 2 sensor 1) I have no clue what those codes mean and how to fix the issue. Can someone help me out with these readings?

The first two codes mean your engine is running lean (with excess of oxygen). This is most likely caused by a vacuum leak, which can occur if you did not securely connect the hoses you were working with. Alternatively, you could have had an intake vacuum leak even before attempting to clean the engine. Vacuum leaks are known to cause rough idling and seafom won't help if this is the case.

I noticed when I was putting in the sea foam some of the hoses were worn and they could or could not have a tear in the lines. How do i know where to start replacing hoses or what parts in general do i need to replace to fix this rough idling issue and the running lean of the engine? Also, once i have fixed the issue will the check engine light go off or will i have to go to the dealer to have the light reset?

I do not like seafoam...
As for solving your problems, often simply clearing the codes can fix the damage done by seafoam.

I posted back in November about this issue, since I have had the car off the road for the winter the problem has gotten worse. I went out today just to let it run for awhile since its been sitting and when the rpms dropped the car started shaking and felt like it was going to shut off. Actually, it probably would have if I didnt shut the car off. Im not planning on putting the car back on the road until May so in the mean time I have to figure out what is going on and why now its shaking and about to shut off. All of these issues started with the seafoam which lead to the above codes and now this. Can anyone point me to a DIY or give me a starting point to try to correct this issue before I have to put the car back on the road for the summer. |
