Windshield Wiper Fluid Light...?

Hey!

My wiper fluid light has been on forever and im sick of seeing it! Their is a leak in the reservoir tank which i dont care to fix because i NEVER use it and dont want to fork out the money for a new pump. Plus my car is always clean, in the 3 years iv owned my e46 iv used it like twice. Is there anyway i can get the light off my dash without filling the reservoir with fluid? I noticed the windscreen washer system has 3 fuses: 49,52,59. Would pulling one of these stop the light?

Thanks!

The leak is caused by a valve being stuck open in the washer fluid pump. just get a new pump and fill the reservoir with fluid. changing the pump is an easy DIY.

(I bought the pump from this exact seller and it still works just fine)
all together less than $20

I wouldnt know about the fuses though

^when you change the pump also replace the grommet, it costs a couple of bucks. This link is for illustrative purposes only http://www.amazon.com/OES-Genuine-Wa.../dp/B001G6MOG0

^yeah but read the fuse labels, on the piece of paper below the fuses, to make sure that the fuse doesn't also control something else ie: fuel pump.

I had the same problem too.
And like you zuckuss00, I didn't want to bother with replacing something I wasn't going to use anyways.

So this was what I did; sorry no pics:
- Take the entire reservoir out of the car; I think there was only 1 fastener that held it in.
- As you're taking it out, make sure to temporarily disconnect the 2 cables and hose.
- Empty all the water out of the reservoir.
- Take a treble fish hook (3 hooks-in-one) and tie a fishing line to it, roughly 2 feet of it.
- With the cap of the reservoir open, look inside and locate the vertically sliding mechanism that senses the fluid level.
- Take the fishing line with the hook and slowly drop it in.
- Lower the hook to the bottom-side of the sliding mechanism and hook it.
- If done properly you should be able to pull up on the string and one of the 3 hooks would still be stuck on the bottom of the sensor.
- Keep the line pulled tight.
- All you do now is tie the string that is pulling up on the sensor to the hinge of the the reservoir's cap.
- Close the cap.
- Reinstall the reservoir, connecting everything back into place.
And voila! The sensor light should no longer be a problem.

^so there must have been a reason why you didn't just remove a fuse?

You can get a cheap pump at Autozone for $12, you just have to splice into the existing harness.

honestly no offense to the op but if your bothered by the light and not willing to spend the $20 that it will cost to fix i would recommend getting rid of the car because you will be running into WAY more expensive problems that will require multiple things to be replaced just to get rid of a light. Not trying to be disrespectful at im just saying this isn't a honda civic where you can get away with half the stuff not working and driving around with no bumper.
