2002 bmw 330i Manual 5 speed clutch probelm or internal trans?

Hi. I have been having a problem with my bmw 330i manual 5 speed with 133k miles. Ok here is the problem.... when the clutch is out in neutral it makes a chattering grinding noise. When you just barely press on the clutch the noise is reduced. When the clutch is completely disengaged the noise is gone. Any help would be great thanks. I was thinking input shaft bearing I hope not tho. I cant hear the noise when driving just when in neutral. Not saying the noise is not there just cant hear it.... The clutch was replaced at 94k with the flywheel being resurfaced... Ya I know not recomended...

If you didnt you should have had the pilot bearing replaced while the trans was out, as well as any bushing or seals that you can get to, also while the trans was out.
I'm thinking what you hear is a gear rattle, try chaning the trans fluid with some high quality synthetic if you haven't allready that might help a bit

Ok I took it to the dealership (not a bmw one a GM one) and they said the noise is comming from the throw-out bearing. Quoted me at 1330+ tax to fix it but once my heated garage is finished I'm going to fix it at home. I hope I can get away with it for a month or two. The thing is you cant hear it when the clutch is disengaged but it does shake a small bit. Now where can I get a good clutch kit and pilot bearing and a good DIY?

Thanks

How long have you personally been driving the car? Did you notice any noise before? There are numerous threads on clutch chatter/dual mass flywheel chatter etc on manual transmission cars. Before spending any money read up some more. My car has a slight chatter, almost a very slight diesel sound when at idle and clutch not pressed. Once pressed noise goes away. My chatter/clatter is louder when car is shut off and clutch not pressed. It has done this since BRAND NEW and appears to be normal on most manual BMW trannies. I shut off car with clutch pressed.
